"When you are setting on a journey, do not seek advice from those who have never left home"
There may be times we find ourselves feeling overwhelmed or unable to cope with something from our past, present or future. Facing up to reality can be difficult or daunting. Sometimes we cannot verbalise or share our feelings and thoughts with friends and family and it can affect our own wellbeing - physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. Counselling will give you the opportunity to explore and make sense of the things in your life that may seem confusing or unsettling for you.
I welcome you by offering you a safe and confidential private space where you can feel comfortable to express some of your inner thoughts, feelings, fears and hopes in a non-judgemental environment.
Are you feeling anxious, sad, lacking confidence or simply cannot understand what you are feeling and why?
Maybe you are encountering one of the following...
♣ Loss of a family member, friend or pet
♣ An awkward or upsetting work situation
♣ A family or relationship dilemma
♣ Health issues
♣ Ecological or Environmental distress
♣ Received bad news of your own health or that of a loved one
♣ In a difficult transition or questioning your worth or your identity
♣ Looking for meaning in your life or need support to make changes in yourself or your life
♣ Distressed or anxious over the on-going Covid-19 situation and the new challenges we face
♣ Struggling with low mood, depression or anxiety
Since a very early age I had a deep passion for helping people and that passion steered me in the direction of a career in nursing, mindfulness and counselling. I have a background in mental health having worked in the NHS as a mental health nurse since 2005. I am a fully trained and qualified Person-centred Counsellor and a Registered Mental Health Nurse.
I recognise the differences and diversity regarding religion, faith, spirituality, culture, gender, sexual orientation, race, disabilities and respect the individuality and uniqueness of every person and their individual needs.
I draw on a wide range of approaches and mindfulness to suit the individual needs of each client and I work in a confidential, non-judgemental and safe environment. I use a variety of skills and modalities to assist you in achieving your counselling goals depending on your inclination and needs .
Academic Qualifications & Further Training
I have completed further training courses, workshops and seminars/webinars:
BSc in Mental Health Studies, Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, Adult Psychology
Mindfulness, Solution Focus Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Trauma, Working with Suicide and Self Harm, Eating Disorder, Sleep Hygiene, Mentorship/Coaching, Resilience Based Clinical Supervision, Telephone Counselling, Online Counselling and Psychotherapy, Blue Cross Pet Bereavement Support, Cruse Bereavement Support Foundation, Road Victim Trust Volunteer, How to Grieve, Retreats
If you would prefer to do telephone sessions or if you do not have an internet connection, all you need is a private space, phone line or mobile phone which is fully charged with good battery life, prior to the session commencing.
If you are an outdoor person or don't have privacy indoors, I provide therapy on nature walks and park walks. The nature and green spaces brings calmness and it can help put clearer perspective on things.
I recommend comfortable footwear and clothing.
I provide Online/Video sessions and the only things you need are a private space, a good internet connection and a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. I recommend and encourage the use of headphones or earphones to increase the feeling of privacy and improve sound quality.
I do offer face-to-face appointment sessions in a private office or I can arrange to do home visits. I also offer in-person sessions outdoors in a nature setting or on park walks, weather permitting of course!
